报告摘要

We live in the age of Artificial Narrow Intelligence, which focuses primarily on research and solutions for practical problems within specific tasks or industries. As such, there is a vast number of unsolved or unexplored problems across various domains of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which may require perseverance over multiple generations to address. In order to build a sustainable ecosystem for this, promoting AI education should be of equivalent, or higher, importance as pursuing AI research. However, as AI talents in academia are being increasingly poached by tech giants, there are rising challenges to maintaining sustainable  AI education. Such challenges are particularly prominent in the UAE, where AI talent is a scarce commodity and, until now, predominant focus has been on the large-scale deployment of AI technology. With the Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), we hope to change this.  With this in mind, in this talk, I will be presenting the uniqueness of the UAE in terms of AI development, and our approaches for promoting both AI research and education within the country.
